The Data Vault North American User Group (DVNAUG) held its quarterly, public webinar on June 8th, 2022, to learn from Data Vault practitioners and network with the Data Vault user community. DVNAUG saw many returning faces and welcomed newcomers as they heard from John Giles and Bryan Thomas. Each meeting covers a different topic relevant to Data Vault implementations and allows for both DV veterans and beginners to get together and learn about all things Data Vault.
Our Q2-2022 meeting showcased John Giles, an author and independent consultant, who spoke on business ontologies and their importance to Data Vault solutions. He noted the basic tenant of DV methodology which acknowledges the importance of defining business ontologies to successfully build out a Data Vault at the enterprise level, and then answered the question, “How can we do this in a way that is simple, fast, and valuable to both IT and the business?”
Bryan Thomas of WhereScape joined in to provide participants with a demo of Idera’s DV Express automation tooling. Bryan is a former NASA trajectory engineer with decades of experience in data warehousing. In his presentation, he showed real world examples of how data automation adds value to businesses. The speed and accuracy that comes from data warehousing automation results in increased efficiency and reduced errors, no matter the industry.
The DVNAUG allows time during each meeting for a question-and-answer session. During June’s meeting, a member asked how a DV implementation might look when performed end-to-end, a great question, which prompted the DVNAUG board to re-arrange the schedule. An entire meeting on the topic of demoing a proper approach to end-to-end Data Vault 2.0 solution planning, design, and development will be presented at the December 8, 2022, webinar.
DVNAUG is a Not for Profit group formed for those interested or experienced in, exploring, or simply curious about the Data Vault 2.0 methodology. The group exists to provide accurate information and share real successes. DVNAUG meets quarterly online. Meetings are open to anyone interested in Data Vault and are free to attend. The next meeting is on September 21st when we will discuss Data Governance as it relates to the Data Vault methodology.
