This Kick Start package is a combined 2-week effort that trains your team and coaches them through a well-defined, thinly scoped, implementation.
DataRebels first takes your team through the standard Certified Data Vault Practitioner course (a.k.a., CDVP2).
Next, we take the standard CDVP2 course workshop exercise and turn the workshop exercise into a 7-day hands-on engagement where your team is able to immediately apply their newly acquired CDVP2 knowledge to your well-defined, well-scoped deliverable.
Our Kick Start program uses real life, hands on application of the Data Vault 2 methodology - using your team, working together in an agile fashion - to produce a targeted outcome.
It's like a Proof-of-Concept on steroids.
Your team will be introduced to a number of concepts as a greenfield set of ideas – transferring ideas to practical application – during the implementation cycle as we assist your team in leveraging best practices while engaged in the build out phase.
CDVP2 Training covers the following concepts:
- Data Vault 2 Methodology – handling streaming and batch feeds, how-to build a managed self-service BI platform, introduction to SCRUM and Agile project management for Data Vault projects, Risk and Mitigation strategies, Introductory looks at Six Sigma, TQM, and Error handling (best practices) including Big Data and what it means, how to integrate Non-Relational platforms seamlessly with your relational environment
- Data Vault 2 Architecture – How to assemble a 3-tiered logical architecture to identify where Managed Self-Service BI resides, how adjacent zones interact from staging zones or Persistent Staging Areas (PSA) to the Enterprise Memory Zone, and how to deal with streaming data feeds.
- Data Vault 2 Modeling (in-depth) – Logical and physical Hubs, Links, Satellites, Business Vault, Introduction to Virtual Information Marts (info marts)
- Data Vault ETL /ELT/data pipeline Implementation best practices (reusable template-driven designs) and consistent, repeatable patterns.
Set Your Data
Infrastructure Readiness
In order to engage in the Kick Start package you must have all the following components in place:
Hardware for development & sandbox testing
- Data for loading within the scope of the Statement of Work – MUST be available in a staging capacity before the Kick Start begins
- Your selected team members must have solid familiarity with the data from the business’ perspective
- ETL / ELT or SQL tooling – MUST be in place and the team must already have a working knowledge of the tool set
- Database Engine or Instance – MUST be in place and working prior the Kick Start beginning.
Build Your Data Vault
After we have trained your team (standard three-day CDVP2 course), the coaching and consulting portion of the Kick Start begins.
During the remaining seven days of the Kick Start, the instructor works closely with the team in an oversight and guidance capacity participating in daily stand-up meetings (SCRUM reviews), helping the project manager escalate priorities with the business when necessary, looking for bottlenecks in the sourcing and acquisition process, and continuing to offer corrective guidance for the team while they are implementing your Data Vault.
The instructor will raise red flags, assess risks of the team not meeting the Kick Start objectives by the deadline, and effectively communicate these risks with your project managers and business stakeholders. It is the job of your project manager to execute mitigation strategies that are decided upon by the business stakeholders. The instructor will also provide working templates for a two-week implementation project plan, a sample risk assessment document, and a sample change request document.
At the end the instructor will write a short review of the entire two-week effort where the team stands and what they need to do next to continue in a successful direction.
Kick Start Prerequisites
The following elements must be defined and are included as part of the Statement of Work that is submitted and agreed upon before the kick start package can take place.
Scope of implementation – jointly decided between the authorized instructor / Kick Start Coach and your project manager.
Assigned/Named team implementation members – your employees who have been selected to participate in the Kick Start Package (maximum # of employees permitted in the program is capped at 15). The selected employee team members must be allocated 100% to the training (if they have not already completed the CDVP2 training) and the program during the Kick Start engagement. If these employees are interrupted during the scheduled engagement period, the Kick Start will be postponed until such time as the employee(s) are able to be dedicated 100% to the defined engagement.
It is the only way we can ensure success.
Assigned / Named resources for training – the employee team members who will be participating in the coaching/consulting portion of the Kick Start program must be listed in both training and implementation teams. You may include other employees in the training class even if they are not participating in the implementation portion of the Kick Start.
Definition of goals for implementation – a descriptive paragraph or two that provides the guidance and goals of the implementation in other words – what do you want to see as a result of the Kick Start package? This is written jointly with the authorized instructor / Kick Start Coach and your project manager. The outcome of the goals definition will be refined and detailed in the formal Statement of Work.
Short skills assessment of each of the implementation team members, i.e., how well versed are they in SCRUM / AGILE? Data Modeling? Data Management? Information Engineering? ETL?
Business Sponsorship must be in-place so the objectives or goals are prioritized. Note, a Business Sponsor is not an IT individual – this either your Product Owner or a representative of the Product Owner.
Note: There are prerequisite conditions that need to be fulfilled before we engage with you. To qualify for the Kick Start you will need to satisfy the conditions outlined above. Due to the intensity of the program, we are limited in the number of Kick Start engagements we accept annually.
